In our opinion, Autumn is one of the most beautiful times in Taupō and with crisp mornings and warm days, it is the perfect time to get out and explore with the whole family. 

Other than enjoy the stunning scenery which is full of autumnal colours, here are our top 5 things to do with the whole family these school holidays:

1.Breakfast at the Lake Bistro

Every great day starts with a hearty, wholesome breakfast for the whole family. With yummy Atomic coffee for the parents and several options for kids to choose from, there is something for everyone. 2. Debretts

What’s better than a hot pool? A hot pool with a hydroslide and a water playground! 

Open from 9:30am to 8:30pm, Debretts is a great activity for a full day or half day with the family. Ideal for ages 4-12, there are enough activities to keep the kids entertained for hours! Surrounded by tropical palms, native birdlife and waterfalls it is also a relaxing day for the parents who can soak in the healing mineral pools while the kids play. 

3. Lions Walk

Whether you are a local or a visitor, you cannot beat Lions Walk. It is perfect for all levels of fitness, its bike, wheelchair and dog friendly. It begins at the Taupō Boat harbour however, there are many points along the way where you can park up and walk which makes it very easy for you to choose where you start and finish. This is one of our favorite walks as you get to walk right along the lakefront and see stunning views of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe, there is nothing quite like enjoying blue skies, a calm lake and sprinkles of snow on the mountains. There are even a few hot water spots along the way if you need to take a break and soak your feet.

4. Ernest Kemp

Not interested in walking around the Lake? What about a cruise on the Lake? The Earnest Kemp is iconic to Taupō, having been around for the last 35 years, it is a relaxing way to enjoy the lake and the Maori carvings in any weather conditions with fun, informative commentary and a warm drink.  To book your family cruise, follow the link here. 

5. Easterfest

This is a one of a kind family friendly festival that takes place every Easter and just keeps getting better every year! This free family event takes place only in Taupō and includes a variety of entertainment from street performers to easter egg hunts. This year, the festival is running from Thursday 14th – Sunday 17th April and has a variety of virtual and in person events. The full programme can be found here.
