The days are getting shorter, the evenings colder, and swimming in the lake is beginning to feel like a distant memory. Autumn is well and truly upon us here in Taupō. While most tend to dread the entrance into winter, we love it and wanted to share our top five spots to explore in Taupō this Autumn.
4. Huka Falls Spa Park track
The Huka Falls Spa Park track takes you along the banks of the Waikato river from the historic Spa Park finishing at the famous Huka Falls. A favourite of ours for its beautiful views along the river.

3. Whakamoenga Point
Home to an exclusive gated estate, Whakamoenga Point is a hidden gem at the furthest point of Acacia Bay. Normally a favourite swim spot in the summer, the bush trail down to the lake and sea like rocky point is also great for exploring in the Autumn
Top tip: Take Acacia Bay Road right until the end, and park in the gravel car park where you’ll see the entrances to the paths leading down to the lake.
2. DeBrett’s Thermal Resort
DeBrett’s Thermal Resort is a great option for the cooler autumn evenings, with a series of relaxing large outdoor mineral pools, as well as a water playground and hydroslides for the kids. An iconic spot in Taupō, the thermal pools is worth the visit.

1. Tauhara Summit
The iconic Mt Tauhara provides some of the most incredible views of Lake Taupō and the Central North Island from the summit. The sometimes steep walk through the bush is not to be taken lightly, but on a calm clear autumns day it’s worth the challenge.
